In Case of Emergency: Quick Fashion Fixes

11 Jul 2016 betty james fashion emergency blog

We’ve all been there.  You’re getting ready for a night out, and you notice a deodorant stain on your little black dress, a zipper gets stuck, or your blouse is full of static.  When it comes to solutions for your everyday fashion emergencies, Betty knows best!

Deodorant Stains

Deodorant stains happen to all of us, and they seem to happen at the most inopportune times, but they are actually quite easy to remove.  Rub the stain with some nylon pantyhose or a dryer sheet and you will be back to looking flawless in no time at all.

Blisters from New Shoes

Yes, those killer new heels look amazing, but they are actually killing your feet!  Here are a few fixes for those “new shoe” blisters.  The simplest solution is to apply a band-aid, but they can rub off and leave you hurting before you even make it through dinner.  Swiping deodorant on the problem area reduces the friction and creates a barrier between your skin and the shoe, relieving the pain and allowing you to dance the night away in your highest heels.  Keep some moleskin on hand. Glue a piece inside your shoe where the rubbing is taking place. This will provide a permanent solution for those blister-causing heels.

Stuck Zipper

Zippers get stuck, and can seem impossible to fix.  Here are two solutions to get your zipper zipping in no time. Using the lead end of a pencil, rub it on the teeth on both sides of the zipper.  The graphite acts as a dry lubricant, and you should be able to pull it right up.  A bar of soap is another option that works in the same way.  Just rub it on the zipper and voila! You’re ready to go.  Just be careful to not use colorful soaps on your most fabulous pair of white pants.

Static Cling

Putting on a blouse only to realize it has become a stage-five-clinger due to static is beyond irritating.  Simply rub an unused dryer sheet all over the shirt to get rid of the static.  Bonus: it smells even fresher now!

Lost Earring Back

Losing an earring back happens all the time, but if you have a pencil on hand, you can still rock those hoop earrings like these Zahara earrings from Betty James.  Just take the eraser off of the pencil, and use it in place of the back.  No one will ever know the difference!
